A man in his 40s was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon in Oakland’s Brookfield Village neighborhood, according to the Oakland Police Department. The fatal shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Louvaine Avenue. Responding officers discovered the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound and immediately transported him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. This incident marks the 19th homicide in Oakland this year, a lower number compared to the 25 homicides reported by this time last year. The Oakland Police Department has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As of Thursday night, no arrests have been announced.
