In a chilling revelation, Brooklyn prosecutors have detailed the brutal murder and dismemberment of 39-year-old Kawsheen Gelzer, whose remains were discovered in a refrigerator over a year after his death. Nicholas McGee, 45, has been charged with murder, robbery, and other related crimes in connection with the March 2022 incident. His wife, Heather Stines, 45, faces charges of concealment of a human corpse, among other allegations.
The gruesome case unfolded when Gelzer’s dismembered body was found in January inside the apartment that McGee shared with Stines. According to the Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s office, McGee fatally stabbed Gelzer while he slept on their sofa following a dispute over drugs. After Gelzer awoke and struggled, McGee continued the assault, stabbing him multiple times, striking him with a hammer, and robbing him. McGee then used a small saw and hammer to dismember Gelzer’s body, placing the head and torso in the refrigerator and the limbs in the freezer.
The grim discovery was made after police responded to an anonymous tip about a body in the apartment’s refrigerator. Upon arrival, officers encountered a taped-up refrigerator and a combative Stines, who was arrested. The remains were identified through fingerprints as belonging to Gelzer.
McGee was arrested in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he was on probation for an unrelated crime and extradited to Brooklyn. A Brooklyn judge ordered McGee held without bail and scheduled further court proceedings.
“This was a gruesome and horrific murder that we allege began with an attack on the victim as he slept,” stated Gonzalez. “We will now seek to hold the defendant accountable for this senseless crime.” The case, shocking in its brutality and the method of concealing the crime, continues to unfold as legal proceedings against McGee and Stines progress.
