A 39-year-old Dublin man, Quinten Giovanni Moody, also known as Christano Rossi, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a range of crimes, including attempting to steal cars from the FBI, according to federal prosecutors. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California stated that Moody admitted to transporting marijuana out of state, committing insurance fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic, and creating fake FBI documents in an attempt to reclaim two government-seized vehicles.
Court documents reveal that between June 2017 and June 2022, Moody and his co-defendant, along with other co-conspirators, earned hundreds of thousands of dollars by transporting marijuana from California to various states, including Georgia, Nevada, and Texas. They used couriers via commercial air flights and shipping services to distribute the drugs and collect the proceeds. Additionally, Moody and his associates engaged in unemployment insurance fraud during the pandemic, submitting fraudulent benefit claims and using another person’s identity to obtain a benefits card.
In April 2022, the U.S. government seized two vehicles, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1956 Chevrolet pickup truck, from Moody. These vehicles were purchased with illegally obtained funds and were stored at an FBI field office. However, Moody attempted to retrieve them by presenting fraudulent court documents to FBI security personnel. He made two unsuccessful attempts, using tow trucks and fake documentation.
U.S. Attorney Phillip Talbert condemned Moody’s actions, stating that he committed felonies involving drugs and identity theft, and further obstructed justice by creating and using phony court documents. Talbert emphasized the commitment of the U.S. Attorney’s Office to hold individuals accountable for such brazen violations of federal criminal law.
Two of Moody’s co-conspirators are currently facing charges, according to prosecutors.
