Teen’s Hijab Yanked Off by Stranger in Manhattan Hate Crime

In a disturbing incident on a Manhattan street last month, a 17-year-old girl fell victim to a hate crime when an unknown assailant forcefully removed her hijab while uttering derogatory remarks. The incident occurred on April 28 around noon on East 44th Street near Second Avenue in Tudor City, according to law enforcement officials. Surveillance footage captured the suspect, who appeared to be grinning, as he approached the unsuspecting teenager and snatched the head covering. The perpetrator swiftly fled northbound on Second Avenue, leaving the victim shocked and traumatized.

This incident is part of a concerning trend of hate crimes that have been on the rise in New York City during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
