Suspected DUI Crash Claims Pedestrian’s Life in Fremont

A pedestrian lost their life in a tragic incident last week when a suspected DUI crash occurred in Fremont. The collision took place on Friday around 11:30 p.m. in the 45000 block of Fremont Boulevard. Subsequently, the vehicle involved in the incident crashed into a traffic pole approximately a quarter-mile away, resulting in injuries to the driver.

Fremont police have announced the arrest of a 58-year-old Sunnyvale man on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury. The victim, who remains unidentified pending notification of relatives, suffered severe injuries at the scene. Despite the efforts of police and rescue personnel, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator, the pedestrian tragically succumbed to their injuries.

This incident marks the first fatal crash investigated by Fremont police this year. The suspect, who sustained minor injuries, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Currently, the individual remains in custody at Alameda County Jail, with bail set at $150,000.
