Standoff on Interstate 80 in Fairfield Ends with Arrest

Interstate 80 in Fairfield was temporarily closed on Friday evening as law enforcement authorities apprehended a potentially armed suspect. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed the closure of both directions of the freeway at the Green Valley Road-Interstate 680 interchange. In a social media post, the CHP Solano area office stated that they were actively working to resolve the incident and would reopen the lanes as soon as possible.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., the westbound lanes of I-80, along with the northbound I-680 transition to eastbound and westbound I-80, were reopened, according to the CHP. However, the eastbound lanes remained closed.

The standoff on the freeway followed a report of a shooting near Windsor earlier in the day. A woman’s SUV was struck by a bullet, fortunately leaving her unharmed. The suspect fled from officers after being located at a shopping center in Rohnert Park. Eventually, the suspect’s vehicle was disabled by a spike strip, forcing it to come to a halt on I-80.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into the incident, and further details regarding the suspect and the charges they may face have not been released at this time.

As the situation unfolded, the closure of Interstate 80 caused significant traffic disruptions in the area. Commuters and travelers were advised to seek alternate routes and exercise patience until the freeway could be fully reopened.
