Santa Barbara Man Arrested for Assaulting Grandfather and Infant in Calabasas

In Calabasas, California, a disturbing assault led to the arrest of 29-year-old Angel Sanchez Jr. from Santa Barbara. The incident, which occurred before 5 p.m. in the 4000 block of Lost Springs Road, involved Sanchez allegedly punching a man in his 60s who was pushing his infant granddaughter in a stroller. Captured on home surveillance footage, the attack caused both the grandfather and the 10-month-old child to fall, with the stroller tipping over. Fortunately, they escaped serious injury.

Sanchez, arrested at around 2:15 p.m. in Oxnard, is also suspected of a second assault on a boy along a nearby bike path on Las Virgenes Road shortly after the first incident. The severity of the boy’s injuries remains unclear. Booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station for assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, the sheriff’s department is investigating the motive, noting both victims were of Asian-American/Pacific Islander descent.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Detective Parks at the sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills station at (818) 878-1808.
