Salt Lake City Police Continue Search for Killer in 43-Year-Old Cold Case

Salt Lake City Police are still actively searching for the killer in a 43-year-old cold case involving the murder of Celedon Archuleta. On May 11, 1980, Archuleta, 76, was found dead in his S. 900 West home. The police investigation revealed an unknown individual had entered his home, fatally beat him, and ransacked the house. The motive appeared to be robbery, as an undisclosed amount of cash, a gun, and a toolbox full of tools were stolen.

Despite extensive efforts by the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad, including interviews with multiple individuals and the utilization of new forensic technology to test evidence collected in 1980, no new leads have emerged. The department believes there are still people who may have information about Archuleta’s death.

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000, referencing case number 80-34923.
