Pleasanton Woman Killed by Ex-Boyfriend Despite Obtaining Restraining Order

In a tragic turn of events, a devoted mother from Pleasanton, Jasmine Del Mar, was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend, Sean Barry, just days after obtaining a temporary restraining order against him. Del Mar had taken proactive measures to protect herself and her family, but unfortunately, they proved insufficient.

The incident unfolded on March 7, when Del Mar made a distressing call to 911, reporting that Barry had unlawfully entered her residence armed with an AR-15 rifle. During the call, gunshots were heard, followed by Del Mar’s exclamation of disbelief before the line abruptly disconnected. Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the scene, only to find Del Mar lifeless and Barry absent.

Authorities later discovered Barry’s vehicle on Interstate 580, near Castro Valley, after a pursuit. Tragically, Barry had taken his own life inside the car, leaving behind the AR-15 rifle. The court documents related to Del Mar’s restraining order shed light on Barry’s unstable and erratic behavior, providing a probable motive for the crime.

According to the restraining order application, Barry had discharged a firearm after an argument with Del Mar in their Pleasanton home. The incident resulted in a shattered sliding glass door. The couple had ended their long-term relationship in 2024, and Del Mar had requested that Barry move out by April 1. However, after filing for the restraining order, she received threatening messages from him, including derogatory language and a chilling sign-off of “see you in hell.”

Jasmine Del Mar, described as a devoted mother, leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. The news of her untimely demise has left her family and friends heartbroken, as they mourn the loss of a cherished loved one.
