Man Charged with Attempted Murder and Assault in Marina del Rey Shooting Spree

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has filed criminal charges against Victoryloc Nguyen, a 41-year-old man accused of engaging in a shooting spree at a Marina del Rey apartment complex. Nguyen has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and assault with a machine gun or assault weapon on both peace officers and civilians. Additionally, he faces charges of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and first-degree residential burglary. Nguyen has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

During his initial court appearance, Nguyen was observed smiling and making a heart gesture with his hands towards individuals in the courtroom, as reported by ABC7. District Attorney George Gascón condemned Nguyen’s actions, describing the incident as a “senseless shooting rampage” where innocent civilians and law enforcement officers were targeted without provocation.

According to prosecutors, the shooting occurred on Saturday at approximately 10:30 p.m. Nguyen allegedly fired over 90 rounds from various locations within the Marina del Rey apartment complex on Via Marina. He was reportedly equipped with a tactical vest and armed with two assault weapons and a handgun, carrying multiple loaded magazines for these firearms.

Videos circulating on social media captured the terrifying moments, showing a man shooting from what appeared to be a balcony while uttering disturbing statements such as, “I can shoot a car right now and no one would [care].” Other videos depicted bystanders seeking shelter or taking cover as gunfire echoed in the background.

Following the suspect’s arrest early Sunday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released photographs of the scene, revealing two rifles, a handgun, and tactical gear lying on the ground. Gascón commended the law enforcement officers who responded to the incident, highlighting their ability to protect civilians and apprehend Nguyen without discharging a single shot.
