Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Nursing Home Worker in Watsonville

A 44-year-old man, Kelvin Hernandez, was apprehended and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail this week after allegedly stabbing a nursing home worker in Watsonville. The incident occurred at a facility located on the 500 block of Auto Center Drive, as reported by Watsonville police. The assault took place on Wednesday shortly after 3:30 p.m., when workers at the nursing home alerted authorities about the injury.

According to the police department’s social media post and arrest logs, Hernandez, who was visiting the nursing home, carried out an unprovoked attack on a staff member. He allegedly used a pocket knife to stab the worker in the shoulder. Officers were able to locate Hernandez later on, and he was found in possession of a knife.

The nursing home employee sustained minor injuries and received on-site treatment, as stated in the department’s post. Hernandez, a resident of Watsonville, is currently being held without bail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon.

In a separate incident prior to the stabbing, Watsonville police were responding to a report of suspected military ordnance found at a storage unit on Westgate Drive. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad safely removed and disposed of a large 40 mm round.
