Homeowner Shoots Suspected Intruder in Newport Beach

A suspected home intruder was shot by a resident in an affluent neighborhood of Newport Beach, California, on Tuesday morning, according to local authorities. The incident occurred within the confines of a gated home situated in the coastal area of Newport Beach, specifically at the intersection of Pelican Hill Road and Newport Coast Drive. Newport Beach police officers promptly responded to a 911 call reporting the shooting at approximately 4:45 a.m.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the crime was a targeted incident involving a prior connection between the suspects and the victims, as stated in an official police statement. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered one of the suspects lying in the street, armed with a handgun and suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured suspect was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The extent of the suspect’s injuries and current medical condition have not been disclosed.

Further examination of the scene led investigators to find a second suspect concealed in nearby bushes. Tragically, this individual had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the suspects have not been released at this time.

Fortunately, the four individuals present inside the targeted residence during the invasion were unharmed, according to the Newport Beach Police Department. In response to the incident, Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill released a video statement emphasizing the city’s commitment to self-defense against criminal activities.
