Paolo Liuzzo, the former boyfriend of Princess Beatrice, was discovered dead in a hotel room in Miami, Florida. The incident, suspected to be a drug overdose, occurred at the citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel on February 7. Miami police responded to the scene at 3:22 p.m. and pronounced Liuzzo dead 12 minutes later. Authorities are currently investigating his death as an overdose.
Liuzzo, an Italian native, began dating Princess Beatrice in 2005 when she was 17 and he was 24. Their relationship gained approval from her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, who invited Liuzzo to join them on a skiing vacation in Switzerland. Despite the age gap, Ferguson expressed her support for the romance, stating that Beatrice was a sensible girl with many friends, including Paolo.
Prior to his involvement with the princess, Liuzzo faced legal trouble after being charged with manslaughter following a drunken fistfight with a fellow student at the College of the Holy Cross. The charge was later reduced to assault and battery, resulting in 100 hours of community service. However, when his relationship with Beatrice became public, he violated his probation and was sent back to the United States. Liuzzo, believed to have inherited his wealth from his father, worked as an art industry consultant at the time of his death and resided near the hotel where he was found.
Beatrice, now 35, has not yet commented on Liuzzo’s passing. In 2009, Liuzzo faced further legal issues when he crashed a rental car in Australia and was subsequently arrested for fraud and cocaine possession after attempting to leave a casino without paying. Buckingham Palace has been contacted for a statement regarding Liuzzo’s death.
It is worth noting that Liuzzo’s demise follows the recent death of Thomas Kingston, Pippa Middleton’s ex-boyfriend, who died from a gunshot wound to the head. Kingston, who was married to Lady Gabriella Windsor, passed away on February 25.
