Oakland police have apprehended eight individuals in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Tuesday morning. The suspects, ranging in age from 21 to 38, were arrested after stealing tobacco products valued at a minimum of $10,000 from a delivery man. The stolen goods, along with two firearms, were successfully recovered during the operation.
The robbery took place at approximately 6:45 a.m. outside a liquor store located in the 7900 block of Mountain Boulevard. Two vehicles pulled up alongside a delivery truck, and a group of masked individuals, some of whom were armed, emerged from the vehicles. They swiftly seized boxes of cigarettes and other items from the truck before making their escape in the same vehicles. Fortunately, the delivery man was unharmed during the incident.
Following an extensive investigation, officers from the Ceasefire Division linked this armed robbery to a series of tobacco-related thefts that have occurred throughout the Bay Area. However, specific details regarding the cities involved have not yet been disclosed. Authorities suspect that the stolen products were intended to be sold to other stores.
Collaborating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, investigators successfully located and apprehended the suspects at two residences on 43rd Street in North Oakland by early evening on Tuesday. Two of the suspects were found to be residents of the targeted residences. In addition to the stolen tobacco products, officers also seized two firearms and other evidence that links the suspects to similar robberies.
