Chelmsford Woman Charged in Parent’s Murder; Trial Date Set

Police have confirmed the discovery of human remains, suspected to be that of an elderly couple, at a residence in Pump Hill, Chelmsford, England. The couple’s daughter, 35-year-old Virginia McCullough, has been charged with their murder. The incident reportedly took place between August 21, 2018, and September 15, 2023.

McCullough appeared in court via video link from HMP Peterborough and has been remanded in custody until a plea hearing on December 1. A tentative trial, expected to last two weeks, has been scheduled for May 13 at Chelmsford Crown Court. No bail application was made.

Essex Police initiated the investigation following reports of concerns for the wellbeing of two individuals in their 70s on September 13. The case, termed as “incredibly complex” by Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby, continues to develop, with police maintaining a presence in the area.

The family of the alleged victims, John and Lois McCullough, are being assisted by specialist officers during this time, requesting privacy to cope with the shocking developments.
