A 29-year-old career criminal, Terrance Wallace, has been apprehended by the NYPD Animal Cruelty Squad in the Bronx on charges of animal cruelty. Wallace, who has a lengthy criminal record with 20 previous arrests, is suspected of using cats as live bait to train his pitbull named China. The recent incident leading to his arrest involved Wallace allegedly beating China with a leash and nearly choking her last month.
On April 17, near Wallace’s University Heights apartment, a 311 call was made to report the alleged abuse. Witnesses claimed that China, who is currently pregnant, was lifted by her leash to the point where she struggled to breathe. Wallace has been charged with torture injury to an animal, a misdemeanor offense.
This arrest follows a viral video that surfaced earlier, showing China viciously attacking a defenseless cat. The video was shared by Little Wanderers NYC, an animal rescue group, which believes that this despicable act is part of an underground dogfighting ring that has been thriving for years in the Gun Hill and Parkside housing projects in the Bronx. Although Wallace has not been charged in connection with that incident, law enforcement sources suspect him to be the individual heard instructing, “Shake her, China,” in the disturbing footage.
Wallace’s most recent arrest in the five boroughs occurred on October 10 for robbery on West Fordham Road. Additionally, he has an outstanding drug-related arrest warrant in Maine, and authorities plan to extradite him to face those charges.
