California Rep. Adam Schiff’s Luggage Stolen in San Francisco Parking Garage

California Rep. Adam Schiff experienced a firsthand encounter with San Francisco’s crime problem when his luggage was stolen from his car in a parking garage on Thursday. The incident occurred as Schiff, a Democrat and candidate for the Senate seat left vacant by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, was attending a gathering with supporters in the city. The theft left him without a suit for a fancy dinner at Ristorante Rocca in Burlingame later that evening.

Confirming the incident, Schiff acknowledged the loss of his bags, stating, “Yes, they took my bags.” However, he expressed gratitude towards Joe Cotchett, a prominent lawyer supporting his Senate bid. Cotchett’s spokesperson, Lee Houskeeper, bluntly remarked, “I guess it’s ‘Welcome to San Francisco.'”

A photograph obtained from the restaurant revealed Schiff as the most casually dressed diner at his table, wearing a long-sleeved shirt under a hiking vest. Despite the car break-in and subsequent wardrobe emergency, Cotchett praised Schiff’s composure, stating, “Adam really showed himself tonight. He’ll be a great senator — he’s going to change the Senate tremendously.”
