Brave Victim Fights Back Against Armed Teens in Central Park Robbery Attempt

In a daring act of self-defense, Ashikur Chowdhury, a 25-year-old resident of Harlem, fought back against two armed teenagers who attempted to rob him in Central Park on Friday night. The incident occurred on a darkened walking trail, where Chowdhury was targeted by the young assailants, one of whom brandished a gun.

Recalling the terrifying encounter, Chowdhury defiantly challenged the robbers, stating, “You don’t have the balls to shoot me.” Despite the potential danger, he decided to become the aggressor, refusing to let them steal his phone. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing over 200 pounds, Chowdhury believed that any reasonable criminal would think twice before attacking him. However, he was taken aback by the fact that the perpetrators appeared to be no older than 16.

As the robbery unfolded, one of the teenagers attempted to snatch Chowdhury’s phone, but he managed to hold onto it. The situation escalated when the other assailant pulled out a pistol and pointed it at Chowdhury’s face, demanding the phone. The victim, fearing for his life, contemplated the potential consequences and thought about his loved ones. Fortunately, the gun was not fired, and Chowdhury expressed gratitude that it may have been a fake weapon.

Despite his initial inclination to empathize with the young criminals, Chowdhury decided to report the incident to the police. His motivation stemmed, in part, from his older brother’s position as an NYPD lieutenant in Brooklyn. He felt a sense of responsibility to take action, not only for his own safety but also to prevent similar incidents from occurring to others. Chowdhury expressed disappointment at the rise in crime within Central Park, a place that had recently managed to stay out of the headlines.

According to a study published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, individuals who actively resist during an attack are less likely to sustain severe injuries compared to those who do not fight back. Ashikur Chowdhury’s brave act of self-defense in Central Park is a prime example of how fighting back can make a difference in dangerous situations.

  2. This is absolutely outrageous! How can anyone justify attempting to rob someone in broad daylight, let alone in a public park? Ashikur Chowdhury should be commended for his bravery and quick thinking in defending himself against these armed teenagers.

It is deeply concerning that such incidents are happening in our communities. Central Park is supposed to be a place where people can feel safe and enjoy their surroundings. This incident is a stark reminder that no one is immune to crime, no matter where they are.
