Arrest Made in Connection with February Stabbing in East Palo Alto

East Palo Alto police have made an arrest in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred in February. Ernesto Alexis Mora Samayoa, a 19-year-old resident of East Palo Alto, was taken into custody on Friday. The suspect was already in custody for an unrelated crime, according to East Palo Alto Police Chief Jeff Liu.

The stabbing incident took place on February 8, just before 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of University Avenue and Bell Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men with stab wounds. While one victim received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, the other was rushed to Stanford Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the second victim, identified as 60-year-old Frank Finney from East Palo Alto, succumbed to his injuries on March 2.

The motive behind the stabbing has not been disclosed by the police. However, in March, authorities released surveillance footage of the attack, which also captured a large white SUV whose driver appeared to witness the incident. Chief Liu expressed gratitude towards community members who contributed to the investigation. He also acknowledged the support of the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, the county’s forensics laboratory, and Mothers Against Murder, who offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator responsible for the killing.
