Violent Crime Spree Unfolds in San Rafael, Five Suspects Arrested

A violent crime spree rocked the city of San Rafael on Tuesday evening, as three teenagers and two 22-year-olds allegedly wreaked havoc across multiple locations. The San Rafael Police Department swiftly responded to the chaos, resulting in the arrest of all five suspects involved in the incidents.

The turmoil began around 5:30 p.m. when numerous emergency calls flooded the San Rafael PD dispatch center, reporting a group of men vandalizing vehicles and engaging in fights near Bahia Way and Canal Street. As officers arrived at the scene, additional 911 calls revealed that the group had escalated their actions, assaulting residents with a wood block and a baseball bat while stealing car keys.

According to police, the victims, who were approached by the suspects at a carport on Canal Street, were coerced into providing alcohol and money. When the residents refused, the suspects launched a violent attack, wielding the baseball bat and wood block, and forcibly took the car keys. The victims valiantly attempted to retrieve their keys but were met with further aggression from the assailants. Fortunately, neither resident required hospitalization for their injuries.

Approximately an hour later, at 6:24 p.m., Target security alerted emergency dispatchers that five men were inside the Shoreline Parkway store, threatening harm to customers. Shortly after this report, another 911 caller disclosed an incident on the San Francisco Bay Trail at Starkweather Shoreline Park, where a victim was attacked with a baseball bat. The victim, who sustained a head injury, was approached by four or five suspects demanding alcohol. Upon refusal, the victim was brutally assaulted and had their phone stolen. San Rafael PD confirmed that the victim received immediate first aid at the scene and was subsequently transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation of the initial attack, an officer spotted the five suspects exiting the San Francisco Bay Trail onto Baypoint Drive and promptly detained them. A thorough investigation linked the suspects to both attacks, leading to their arrest without incident. All five individuals were subsequently booked into the Marin County Jail.

The San Rafael PD has identified the suspects and the charges they face. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about these incidents to contact the San Rafael Police Department at (415)-485-300 or submit a tip at https://www.srpd.org/tips.
