Jason Michael Ludwig, a 49-year-old man from Salt Lake City, has been federally charged with one count of attempted credit union robbery and making violent threats towards employees and responding officers. Ludwig is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Friday, September 1 at 9:30 a.m.
According to court documents, Ludwig entered the America United Federal Credit Union on Friday, August 18 around 1:30 p.m. Witnesses reported that Ludwig became aggressive and demanded money from a teller, who refused to comply. Allegedly, Ludwig then threatened the bank, claiming to have a bomb in his backpack and stating his intention to “blow up the credit union and the vault.”
Ludwig also claimed to possess a gun and threatened to “shoot and kill” credit union employees as well as responding officers. However, upon his arrest, no guns or explosives were found on Ludwig or in his belongings.
