Red Sox Prospect Brainer Bonaci Suspended for 2024 Season

Boston Red Sox prospect Brainer Bonaci has been handed a suspension for the entire 2024 season after violating Minor League Baseball’s domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy, as reported by the Boston Globe on Wednesday. The exact details leading to the suspension remain undisclosed.

Bonaci, a 21-year-old infielder, was initially placed on administrative leave in August and returned to his home country of Venezuela. However, he was later permitted to participate in the Arizona Fall League, playing two games for the Glendale Desert Dogs. In October, Major League Baseball placed him on the restricted list, according to previous reports.

Ranked as the No. 12 Red Sox prospect by MLB Pipeline, Bonaci began last season with High-A Greenville before earning a promotion to Double-A Portland. In the Eastern League, he showcased a batting average of .279, an on-base percentage of .361, and a slugging percentage of .426 across 16 games. Bonaci’s final appearance came in a doubleheader on August 27, after which he was placed on leave and did not return for the remainder of the season. Throughout his minor league career, he has maintained a batting average of .272, an on-base percentage of .368, and a slugging percentage of .409 over 297 games.
