Queens Man Arrested with 123 Pounds of Marijuana in Virginia

A Queens man, identified as Jun Yan, was apprehended by Virginia State Police on Wednesday after being pulled over for speeding on Interstate 81. The routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a significant criminal investigation when troopers discovered a staggering 123 pounds of marijuana inside Yan’s 2024 Toyota Sienna.

At approximately 2:17 p.m., state troopers noticed Yan’s vehicle speeding and tailgating, prompting them to initiate the traffic stop. However, what initially seemed like a routine violation soon turned into a much more serious offense. Yan, 45, consented to a search of his vehicle, leading the officers to uncover several boxes containing 123 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana.

According to Virginia State Police, the estimated street value of the seized drugs amounts to a staggering $500,000. As a result, Yan was promptly arrested and now faces charges of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and transporting more than five pounds of marijuana into the Commonwealth.

Following his arrest, Yan was booked into the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Regional Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the efforts made by law enforcement agencies to combat such illegal activities. The collaboration between Virginia State Police and their vigilant approach to traffic enforcement has resulted in the removal of a significant quantity of drugs from circulation.
