Authorities Raid Suspected Drug Lab in Brentwood, Detonate Explosive Substance

Authorities in Brentwood, California, conducted a raid on Tuesday at a suspected drug lab, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old man and the detonation of three containers filled with an explosive substance. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that they are currently seeking two additional suspects, a 44-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both residents of Brentwood.

The discovery of a dimethyltryptamine (DMT) manufacturing lab occurred around 9:50 a.m. when detectives executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 800 block of Shasta Daisy Drive, near Liberty High School. During the processing of the lab, the hazardous materials program team from the county uncovered three containers storing a potentially explosive compound. The substance was later identified as triacetone triperoxide (TATP), a highly volatile and powerful explosive, by the Walnut Creek Police Department bomb squad.

To ensure public safety, the containers were safely detonated, with one being exploded at the scene and the other two at a separate location. Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated during the operation.

The 29-year-old man was taken into custody and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for an outstanding arrest warrant related to parolee at large charges. The remaining two suspects are wanted for burglary, narcotics violations, possession of an explosive device, and child endangerment, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the drug lab or the whereabouts of the outstanding suspects to contact the Investigations Division at 925-313-2600. Tips can also be provided via email or voice message at 866-846-3592.
