Person Shot and Killed by Police on Roof of Germantown, Wisconsin Middle School

A person was shot and killed by Germantown police officers on the roof of Kennedy Middle School in Germantown, Wisconsin. The incident occurred on Monday evening when officers responded to a report of a subject acting erratically in the school’s parking lot. The subject climbed onto the roof, and two officers pursued on foot. According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), the subject discharged a firearm on the roof, prompting officers to return fire. A third officer also discharged their firearm. The subject died at the scene.

At the time of the incident, there were approximately 50-70 students inside the school. All interactions with the subject took place outside the building, and the middle school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. The Germantown School District referred to the incident as a “school safety threat.” No students or staff members were injured during the incident.

The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, following agency policy. The Wisconsin DOJ believes this to be an isolated incident and has stated that there is no danger to the public. Parents were able to reunite with their children at MacArthur Elementary, where all students from Kennedy Middle School were transported by bus.

As a result of the incident, there will be no school for the Germantown School District on Tuesday, October 24. The DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation, and reports will be turned over to the Washington County District Attorney upon its conclusion.
