Off-Duty Oakland Officer Arrested for DUI After Crashing into CHP Vehicle, Injuring Officer

An off-duty Oakland police officer, David Gonzales, was arrested on two counts of drunken driving after he allegedly crashed his car into a California Highway Patrol (CHP) vehicle, injuring an officer. The incident occurred on Interstate 80 in Fairfield, east of the Manuel Campos Parkway exit, at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Gonzales, who had just celebrated his 36th birthday, was taken into custody and booked into Solano County Jail on two felony charges of DUI causing injury. Each charge carries a bail amount of $25,000, as stated in the jail’s intake log. However, Gonzales is no longer in custody, according to jail records. The decision to file charges against him is pending review by Solano County prosecutors.

Following the incident, Oakland police placed Gonzales on administrative leave. He currently serves as a patrol officer with the department.

According to authorities, the CHP patrol car involved in the collision was stationary on the freeway, attending to an unrelated car crash. The patrol vehicle had one officer inside, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently hospitalized. Another CHP officer was present at the scene but was standing away from the vehicle when the collision occurred.

Gonzales remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. He was booked into the county jail a little after 8 a.m. on the same morning.
