A Nebraska substitute teacher, identified as Erin Ward, has been arrested and charged with felony sexual abuse by a school employee after being caught naked in a car with a 17-year-old student. The shocking incident took place in Gretna, Douglas County, Nebraska.
Erin Ward, 45, who is married to Doug Ward, a high-ranking federal government employee, allegedly confessed to engaging in sexual activity with the teenage boy in the backseat of the car. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious car parked on a dead-end street.
Upon approaching the vehicle, law enforcement officers discovered Erin Ward naked and the teenage student partially clothed in the backseat. Startled by the presence of the deputies, the teenager quickly moved to the driver’s seat and attempted to flee. However, he crashed the vehicle two blocks away and fled on foot, leaving Erin Ward behind.
Erin Ward, who works as a substitute teacher at Burke High School, was found inside the car, where she proceeded to dress herself. She then allegedly admitted to having engaged in sexual activity with the student. Police discovered her identification from Omaha Public Schools, and she confirmed that she had substituted at various schools in the area, including the school attended by the teenager involved.
The teenage student was later located hiding in a nearby yard, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear. Due to the age of consent in Nebraska being 16, Erin Ward managed to avoid statutory rape charges. However, she now faces the serious charge of felony sexual abuse by a school employee.
Erin Ward’s husband, Doug Ward, is a director at the US Department of Defense and has a long-standing career with the US Strategic Command. He holds degrees from the University of Illinois, Bellevue University, and Harvard Extension School. Currently pursuing a doctorate in defense and strategic studies at Missouri State University, Doug Ward was not present during the incident.
