East Bay Man Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion for Underreporting Income

Salman Salman, a 47-year-old man from Rodeo, pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of tax evasion after deliberately underreporting his income for his three businesses, including a tattoo and piercing parlor, according to the Department of Justice. The businesses owned and operated by Salman were The Plug Tattoo and Piercing, S&S Real Estate Investment Group, and Synergy Investment Group Ohio.

Prosecutors revealed that Salman admitted to intentionally understating his and his wife’s income while falsely claiming inflated expenses to reduce his tax burden. The tax evasion scheme spanned from 2016 to 2019, during which Salman failed to report more than $3.4 million of his income.

Initially charged with four counts of tax evasion on December 11, Salman ultimately pleaded guilty to one count specifically related to evading taxes in 2019, as confirmed by prosecutors. The sentencing hearing for Salman is scheduled for September 8. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of five years, a fine of up to $250,000, and restitution of at least $438,000 to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
