Unseen Footage Reveals Moments Leading to Assault at Brooklyn Pride Event

Newly released footage has provided fresh insights into the events preceding the assault committed by investment banker Jonathan Kaye at a Brooklyn Pride event. Kaye, 52, turned himself in on Monday and is now facing second- and third-degree assault charges related to the incident that occurred on June 8. The victim’s attorney shared the video with The Post, revealing a brief exchange of words between Kaye and an anti-Israel LGBTQ group near the corner of Fifth Avenue and Third Street in Park Slope.

In the footage, a member of the group is seen dousing Kaye with what appears to be water, prompting him to shove one of them and question their actions. The group taunts Kaye, and moments later, someone splashes him with red Gatorade, causing him to become enraged. Kaye charges towards the group, who scatter, but loses his footing on the sidewalk’s edge and briefly falls into the crosswalk. As he gets up, he engages in a physical altercation with several individuals before shoving a woman in a black sleeveless shirt to the ground. The crowd reacts disapprovingly, and someone attempts to grab Kaye’s arm before he throws a right hook off-camera. He then walks away, flashing a thumbs up while ignoring the shouts from several people.

Ron Kuby, the attorney representing both the woman who was assaulted and the one who was shoved, expressed satisfaction with Kaye’s arrest. Kuby stated that his clients did not seek prison time for Kaye but wanted him to undergo anger management and become a better person. Kaye, who had been placed on leave from his position at Moelis & Co. investment bank following the incident, resigned last week. In the aftermath, leaflets with Kaye’s image, name, address, and job title were distributed in his neighborhood, labeling him as the individual who “PUNCHED WOMAN AT PRIDE PARADE.”

During his arrest, Kaye avoided eye contact and declined to answer reporter questions. His lawyer, Danya Perry, reiterated claims that Kaye had been “terrorized, assaulted, and surrounded by a group of unruly antisemitic protesters.” Perry expressed hope that the District Attorney would consider these facts, along with the surge of antisemitic acts, protests, and attacks occurring in the city. However, Kuby countered these claims, stating that no slurs were hurled and the group was unaware of Kaye’s Jewish background or his support for Israel, perceiving him as a random individual exhibiting erratic behavior.
