Two Dead in Homicide Investigation at University of Colorado Colorado Springs

Two individuals were found dead in a dorm room at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department. The victims, whose identities have not been released, were discovered when authorities responded to a shooting report at approximately 6 a.m. The police department stated on social media that, based on their initial investigation, the incident does not appear to be a murder-suicide, and both deaths are being treated as homicides.

The cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office, but preliminary information suggests that each person sustained at least one gunshot wound. Police spokesperson Ira Cronin described the incident as an “isolated incident” during a briefing. The campus was placed on lockdown for approximately 90 minutes, with the restriction later limited to a student apartment complex. As a result, the university, located about 69 miles south of Denver, remained closed for the day.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs, which boasts a student population of over 11,000 and nearly 2,000 faculty and staff members, has been shaken by this tragic event. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, seeking to uncover any potential motives or connections between the victims and the perpetrator(s).
