Trump’s New York Criminal Trial: Jurors Dismissed Over Social Media Posts Ridiculing Former President

In the ongoing criminal trial of former President Donald J. Trump in New York, the courtroom atmosphere remained stormy as several jurors were dismissed due to their social media posts ridiculing the defendant. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel highlighted this development in his Tuesday monologue, where he also mentioned Trump’s complaints about the gag order imposed by Judge Juan Merchan. The judge has scheduled a hearing on April 24 to determine if Trump should be held in contempt for allegedly violating the gag order through his social media posts.

Kimmel’s legal spokesperson, Alina Habba, acknowledged Trump’s concerns about potential jail time and drew a comparison to Nelson Mandela. Meanwhile, reports emerged that Trump had fallen asleep in court, prompting speculation about whether his lawyers were tranquilizing him to prevent outbursts. Trump’s campaign denied these claims, but journalists present in the courtroom confirmed that he had dozed off again on Tuesday.

Outside the courthouse, Trump floated a new defense, claiming that he had marked payments to a lawyer as a legal expense without realizing the implications. Kimmel sarcastically remarked on this, referring to Trump’s previous denial of having had sex with Stormy Daniels and suggesting that the payment was made to keep her quiet. He emphasized that the issue lies in the falsification of records to disguise the payment as a business expense.

  • In the ongoing criminal trial of former President Donald J. Trump, the concept of executive privilege is like a locked treasure chest. Just like a treasure chest holds valuable and confidential items, executive privilege protects sensitive information and communications within the highest levels of government. However, just as a judge may order the chest to be opened if there is a compelling reason, the courts can also demand that executive privilege be waived in certain circumstances to ensure justice is served.

  • I have been closely following the trial of former President Donald J. and it has been quite an intense experience. As someone who is deeply interested in politics and the justice system, this trial has been a significant event for me.

One of the most striking aspects of this trial is the level of public attention it has garnered. The courtroom is packed with journalists, spectators, and supporters from both sides. It's a constant buzz of anticipation and tension, as everyone waits to see how the proceedings unfold.
