Ignacio Cruz Mendoza, a 47-year-old tractor-trailer driver, has been taken into custody at the Jefferson County Jail following a fatal crash that resulted in one death and serious injuries to another individual. The Colorado State Patrol announced Mendoza’s arrest for charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault in a news release on Thursday.
The incident occurred on U.S. 285 near Aspen Park, where Mendoza was transporting a load of steel pipe in a southbound direction. State patrol officials reported that Mendoza lost control of his vehicle, colliding with five other vehicles at approximately 5 p.m.
Tragically, one person lost their life at the scene of the crash, while another individual sustained severe injuries. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.
Mendoza is currently being held in custody on a $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, as per court records.
