Three Oakland Residents Charged in Alameda Carjacking and Child Abuse Case

Three 18-year-old Oakland residents, Marionna Haley, Isaiah Howard, and Sariyah Barker, are facing felony charges in connection with a carjacking and child abuse incident that occurred in Alameda on Wednesday. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that each of the suspects is charged with one count of carjacking and two counts of child abuse, along with firearm enhancements.

District Attorney Pamela Price expressed concern over the vulnerability of children to gun violence, stating that the alleged use of a firearm while children were present during the carjacking is unacceptable in Alameda County.

The carjacking took place around 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the 2800 block of Mound Street. A 42-year-old woman and two 4-year-old children, a boy and a girl, were parked in front of a residence when three suspects approached them and demanded the keys to their BMW SUV. Alameda police reported that one of the suspects was armed with a firearm. The woman complied with the demands and was allowed to remove the children from the vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The suspects fled the scene in the stolen BMW. However, authorities were able to track down the vehicle, and the suspects were apprehended after crashing in San Francisco.
