A shocking incident unfolded at Lincoln Middle School in Syracuse, New York, when a mother burst into her daughter’s classroom and viciously attacked the teacher in front of approximately 25 students. The assailant, identified as 31-year-old Lynzina Sutton, repeatedly punched the teacher in the face, causing severe injuries that included broken bones and a concussion. The incident, which occurred on Friday, has since sparked outrage and concern within the community.
According to Onondaga District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick, the injuries sustained by the teacher were beyond what one would typically witness in a boxing match. The dedicated educator, who has been described as a veteran in the field, is expected to face long-term issues due to the assault. Fitzpatrick highlighted the severe impact on her nasal passages as a result of the attack.
Sutton, accompanied by her mother, Roxanne Thompkins, had attempted to enter the school premises the day before the incident. This was prompted by Sutton’s daughter allegedly lying about her whereabouts during school hours. The teacher, fearing for her safety, filed an official complaint with the school administration. While Thompkins was prevented from entering the school on the following day, Sutton managed to blend in with other students by pulling her hood over her head.
Once inside her daughter’s classroom, Sutton unleashed a series of punches on the teacher, traumatizing the students who witnessed the assault. After the attack, Sutton managed to leave the school but was later apprehended by authorities. She now faces charges of burglary and assault.
The incident has prompted Syracuse City School District’s Superintendent Anthony Davis, District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick, and Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile to hold a joint press conference. Superintendent Davis expressed concern over the safety of educators who dedicate their lives to educating students, emphasizing that such incidents should not occur.
Thompkins, Sutton’s mother, claimed that their anger towards the school stemmed from their daughter being a victim of repeated bullying, which allegedly went unaddressed. Thompkins stated that her daughter had been subjected to physical abuse, including slapping and kicking, resulting in broken glasses and cellphones. She expressed remorse for the injured teacher and acknowledged that there were better ways to handle the situation.
Lynzina Sutton has been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Meanwhile, the teacher has been discharged from the hospital and is currently in the process of recovery.
