Suspect Leads Richmond Police on Pursuit, Crashes into Another Vehicle, Arrested with Recovered Gun

In a dramatic turn of events on Monday, Richmond police officers engaged in a pursuit after attempting to pull over a suspect with outstanding arrest warrants. The incident unfolded on state Highway 4, culminating in a two-car crash, an arrest, and the recovery of a firearm.

According to a statement released by the Richmond Police Department, officers initiated the chase upon spotting the suspect, whom they believed to be armed. The suspect’s vehicle proceeded eastbound on Highway 4 and ultimately collided with another car at the Pine Street exit. The impact disabled the suspect’s vehicle, prompting the individual to flee the scene on foot.

Despite the suspect’s attempt to evade capture, officers successfully located and apprehended the individual in the vicinity of the crash. The suspect now faces charges of attempted evading of officers, illegal possession of a firearm, and the pre-existing arrest warrants.

During the pursuit, the suspect discarded a firearm from the vehicle, which was later recovered with the assistance of a police dog. This crucial evidence further bolsters the case against the suspect.

Regrettably, the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. However, the injuries sustained by one of the pursuing officers were also minor, and they were promptly treated at a nearby hospital before being released.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily in their efforts to maintain public safety. The swift actions of the Richmond police officers resulted in the successful arrest of a suspect with outstanding warrants and the removal of a potentially dangerous weapon from the streets.
