Police have unveiled a perp sketch of the suspect involved in a disturbing daylight assault on a sunbather in Central Park. The assailant, described as a 6-foot-tall black man in his 30s with a medium build, is now being sought by law enforcement. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 1:30 p.m. near West 104th Street and the West Drive within the iconic greenspace.
According to the sketch obtained by The Post, the suspect is depicted with a dark-colored beard trimmed close to his jawline, a mustache, and curly hair. Notably, he has visible bags under his eyes. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a baseball cap, a light-colored shirt, and shorts, as reported by the police.
The victim, a 21-year-old woman who was alone at the time, bravely fought off her would-be rapist after he exposed himself to her and attempted to tackle her as she tried to escape. The suspect ultimately fled on foot, leaving the victim shaken but determined.
In response to the incident, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell stated that all strategic response groups are currently converging on the park, conducting a thorough search for witnesses and any potential evidence. The police are urging anyone with information about the assault to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
