NYPD Widow Calls for Action to Protect Police Officers

Four months after the tragic on-duty death of NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, his widow Stephanie Diller has spoken out, urging politicians to take stronger measures to protect police officers. In an emotional interview with The Post, Stephanie reiterated her plea, emphasizing the need for change in New York’s criminal justice system.

Jonathan Diller had expressed concerns about the revolving-door nature of the system, which allowed repeat offenders, like those accused of killing him, to roam freely and commit further crimes. Stephanie Diller criticized the current laws, stating that they embolden criminals by lacking sufficient consequences for their actions.

During her tribute at Jonathan’s funeral, Stephanie recalled the murders of Detective Jason Rivera and Detective Wilbert Mora in 2022, which deeply affected her late husband. Jonathan had expressed his distress over the incident, telling Stephanie that he never wanted such a tragedy to befall her.

Jonathan Diller’s death reignited the debate surrounding bail reform in Albany, with many in law enforcement blaming it for the rise in recidivist crimes. Former President Donald Trump made headlines when he attended Jonathan’s wake, calling for “law and order” and criticizing President Biden for his absence. A family member was also reported to have confronted Gov. Hochul at the service, accusing her of having “blood on her hands” and demanding changes to the bail laws.

The two individuals charged in Jonathan Diller’s killing, Guy Rivera and Lindy Jones, have extensive criminal records. Stephanie Diller described her late husband as a dedicated officer who aimed to make the city safer and help innocent people. She emphasized the humanity of police officers, highlighting that they are husbands, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.

  • This is absolutely outrageous! It's been four months since Officer Jonathan Diller lost his life while serving and protecting our community, and it's about time something is done about it. How many more brave officers need to die before politicians wake up and take action?

Stephanie Diller, the widow of Officer Diller, is right to demand stronger measures to protect our police officers. These men and women put their lives on the line every single day to ensure our safety, and yet they are constantly
