North Carolina High School Student Charged After Assaulting Teacher in Viral Classroom Incident

A North Carolina high school student has been charged after allegedly assaulting a teacher during a profanity-laced classroom rant that was captured on video and went viral. The incident occurred at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, where the student, identified as a minor, physically attacked the teacher.

In the video footage posted on social media, the enraged student can be seen slapping the teacher multiple times while engaging in a verbal tirade. Despite the initial impact, the teacher appeared unfazed and calmly responded to the student’s aggression. The student continued to taunt the teacher, threatening to hit her again, and eventually delivered a second blow that knocked off her glasses.

The disturbing incident was met with laughter from some students who were present in the classroom. However, the school district swiftly condemned the student’s behavior, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus expressed her concern for the teacher’s well-being and pledged to provide the necessary support to help her navigate the aftermath of the incident.

Following the incident, the juvenile justice system issued a secure custody order for the student, who now faces three misdemeanor charges, including Assault on a Government Official, Communicating Threats, and Misdemeanor Assault. The Forsyth Sheriff’s office announced the charges and emphasized the need to hold those who educate and teach our children in high regard.

Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough Jr. expressed his outrage at the incident and called for the community to come together to ensure order and safety for both the community and its children. He also extended his prayers to the students who witnessed the assault and the affected educator.

Parkland High School Principal Noel Keener assured that the student would face disciplinary action in addition to the criminal charges. Keener reiterated that the behavior displayed in the video did not align with the school’s expectations of its students.

Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neil confirmed that an investigation into the viral video was underway to determine if any further criminal behavior had occurred. O’Neil, along with Sheriff Kimbrough, visited the school and spoke with the teacher to convey a message of support and solidarity from law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office.
