New Footage Released in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati Murder of Jason McKinnon

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office has released new footage related to the murder of Jason McKinnon in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati. McKinnon, a 48-year-old man, was fatally injured following an altercation on October 4, shortly after an FC Cincinnati match. The incident occurred on E. 14 Street, where multiple 911 calls were made. Upon arrival, Cincinnati police found McKinnon suffering from injuries on the sidewalk. He was later pronounced dead at UC Medical Center on October 8.

Lavontez Davis, a 24-year-old man, has been accused of strangling McKinnon. Last week, Davis was arrested and subsequently indicted on two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault, and one count of strangulation. The newly released video footage shows McKinnon walking with his wife when he approaches a woman in a car, warning her about going the wrong way down the street. This interaction leads to a verbal altercation. Moments later, Davis runs up the street and puts McKinnon in a chokehold multiple times, as stated in the police report.

During a press conference, the defense attorney for Davis claimed that his client acted in self-defense, protecting himself and his eight-month pregnant girlfriend. Alex Erb, the general manager of CityBird restaurant nearby, mentioned that Davis had come to pick up food as a DoorDash driver after the assault.

The case remains under investigation, and Davis is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
