Minnesota Man Arrested in Brutal Killing of Pregnant Model in Los Angeles

A shocking development has unfolded in the case of Maleesa Mooney, a 31-year-old model and real estate agent who was found dead in her downtown Los Angeles apartment in September. Los Angeles police announced on Wednesday that they have arrested a Minnesota man, 41-year-old Magnus Daniel Humphrey, in connection with Mooney’s brutal killing. Humphrey, who was on federal probation, was apprehended at his residence in Hopkins, Minnesota, on an unrelated federal warrant.

Mooney’s life was tragically cut short on September 7, according to court records, five days before her lifeless body was discovered. The autopsy report from the L.A. County Medical Examiner Department revealed a horrifying scene. Mooney’s body was found inside her refrigerator, bound at the arms and legs. She had suffered blunt-force trauma injuries to her head, neck, torso, arms, wrists, and ankles.

The motive behind this heinous crime remains unknown, as authorities have not disclosed any evidence linking Humphrey to Mooney’s death. LAPD detectives are yet to reveal the details surrounding the investigation. However, Humphrey is expected to be transported to Los Angeles soon to face charges of murder and torture.

Mooney’s family had become concerned when they were unable to reach her and requested a welfare check. Tragically, their worst fears were confirmed when her lifeless body was discovered. Mooney’s cousin had last FaceTimed with her on September 6, and she had gone out with friends in Santa Monica. However, her family never heard from her again.

Mooney, who was two months pregnant at the time of her death, had been working for Nest Seekers, a Beverly Hills real estate agency, for nearly two years. She also pursued modeling part-time. Her sister, Jordan Pauline, revealed that Mooney’s phone, laptop, and a designer purse were stolen from her apartment. The family received vague text messages from an unknown sender, leading them to believe that the perpetrator may have known Mooney’s phone’s passcode.
