A man was fatally shot and a woman left in critical condition following a shooting incident in Antioch on Wednesday night. According to a statement from Antioch police Sgt. Kristian Palma, the shooting took place near a vineyard, although it remains unclear if the woman was also shot at the same location.
The incident occurred around 11:25 p.m. when officers responded to the 1600 block of Vineyard Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered a man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both the officers and Contra Costa Fire Protection District paramedics worked diligently to save the man’s life, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The 58-year-old victim’s identity has not been released as of Thursday.
Simultaneously, a 44-year-old woman arrived at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch with at least one gunshot wound. She was immediately transported by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where she remains in critical condition.
Antioch police believe that these shootings were isolated incidents and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Crime scene investigators are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the case.
