Man Arrested on Five Counts of Attempted Murder in King City Shooting Incident

A man has been apprehended by the King City Police Department on charges of attempted murder following a shooting incident in the city. The arrest came after law enforcement responded to a report of shots fired in an alleyway behind the 600-block of Meyer Street on Monday, just before 4 p.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered evidence of a shooting and located a vehicle occupied by five individuals. Fortunately, none of the occupants sustained any injuries. Utilizing video surveillance footage, the police were able to identify the suspect and his vehicle.

The suspect’s car was subsequently found on the 700-block of Talbot Street. In a coordinated effort, the King City Investigations Unit, along with the assistance of the Salinas SWAT team, the Greenfield Police Department, and the Salinas Valley State Prison’s Investigative Services Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence. During the operation, one individual was located, arrested, and subsequently booked into the Monterey County Jail on five counts of attempted murder.

This arrest comes amidst a series of shootings that have plagued King City this year. In early March, a mass shooting claimed the lives of four individuals and left seven others injured. Additionally, in February, two cousins were tragically killed in what authorities believe to be a related double homicide, characterized by an “execution-style” shooting. Police have indicated that these crimes are likely gang-related, although none of the victims involved in these incidents have been linked to any gang affiliations.

The King City Police Department is urging anyone with further information regarding this case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Individuals can contact the department directly at (831) 385-4848 or reach out to Captain Robert Masterson at the same number or via email at rmasterson@kingcity.com.
