Milford police have arrested and charged a 64-year-old man, Juan Hermida Munoz, for allegedly operating an illegal dental practice out of a back room of a convenience store. Munoz rented a room in the back of Alternativa Convenience Store on Main Street from the store’s owner, Maria Guaman-Castro, according to the police. Despite lacking a license to practice dentistry in the United States, Munoz allegedly provided dental care to patients, including exams, tooth extractions, anesthesia, and cleanings.
In a press release, the police stated that this illegal dental practice posed a danger to patients due to unsanctioned and unsanitary conditions. The duration of Munoz’s alleged operation and the number of patients he saw remain unclear.
The police have charged Munoz with practicing unauthorized dentistry and practicing unauthorized medicine. Additionally, Guaman-Castro has been charged with conspiracy.
