A 23-year-old man from Everett, Prasidda Baruwal, was arrested on Saturday morning in connection with the fire that occurred at the Squealing Pig in Boston. Baruwal is set to appear in court on multiple charges, including arson of a commercial building, breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, and destruction of personal property. The Boston police have not disclosed any information regarding Baruwal’s alleged motive or further details about the incident.
Last week, emergency crews responded to a devastating fire at the Squealing Pig located on Smith Street in Mission Hill. The fire, which broke out early Wednesday morning, completely gutted the restaurant. The intense heat also caused damage to a nearby streetlight and two vehicles, according to the Boston Fire Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered heavy flames engulfing the restaurant, prompting them to immediately call for a second alarm. Video footage provided by Northeastern students captured the intensity of the fire.
The owners of the Squealing Pig, known as the O’Neills, expressed their devastation over the loss of their pub, which had been serving the community for 26 years. In a statement, they acknowledged the strong sense of community in Mission Hill and vowed to rebuild, creating a new gathering place for cherished memories to be made.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the full extent of the damage caused by the fire and gather more evidence related to the incident. The Boston police have not released any additional information at this time.
