LAPD Officers Injured in Shooting During Traffic Stop

Two LAPD officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during a traffic stop in Los Angeles on Wednesday night when an assailant unexpectedly opened fire, according to police reports. The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. near the intersection of South Broadway and Rosecrans Avenue, where Southeast Division officers initiated the stop on a white Chevy sedan. As the vehicle came to a halt, an individual inside the car immediately discharged a firearm at the officers, prompting them to return fire.

The extent of the suspect’s injuries remains unknown, as the police account does not specify whether the driver or another occupant of the vehicle fired the shots. The LAPD released a photograph of the officers’ cruiser, revealing multiple bullet holes in the windshield, with both the driver and passenger sides struck. One officer sustained a graze wound to the head, while the other was injured by shattered glass. Both officers were transported to a nearby hospital by Fire Department paramedics and are reported to be in stable condition.

Following the exchange of gunfire, the suspect’s vehicle fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit that ended in the area of Broadway and 135th Street. However, the officers lost sight of the car as it traveled north on Broadway. The LAPD is actively searching for the suspect and the vehicle involved, urging anyone who witnessed the attack on the officers to come forward with information.

The investigation is still in its early stages, with authorities reviewing body-worn and other available video footage, as well as physical evidence. The LAPD is appealing to the public for assistance in apprehending the suspect and bringing them to justice.
