Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner is currently under investigation by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office for an alleged sexual assault on one of his four children. The investigation was initiated after a distress call was made to Sheriff Donny Youngblood by Dist. Atty. Cynthia Zimmer, who is Scrivner’s aunt. The call reported that Scrivner was armed and appeared to be experiencing a “psychotic episode” at his residence in Tehachapi.
Upon receiving the call, Sheriff Youngblood dispatched deputies to the scene, with the initial belief that they were responding to a potentially suicidal individual in the midst of a mental health crisis, rather than a criminal incident. However, upon arrival, deputies discovered that Scrivner had engaged in a physical altercation with his children, resulting in him being stabbed twice in the upper torso. The altercation was reportedly triggered by allegations of sexual assault made by one of his children.
The injuries sustained by Scrivner were determined to be non-life-threatening. At the time of the incident, Scrivner’s four minor children and his parents were present in the house, while his wife, Christina, was not.
Sheriff Youngblood revealed that a search warrant was obtained, leading to the seizure of 30 firearms, psychedelic mushrooms, electronic devices, and potential evidence related to the alleged sexual assault. An emergency protective order has been issued, prohibiting Scrivner from having any contact with his children. The ages of the children and the specific identity of the victim have not been disclosed.
Sheriff Youngblood emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and far from complete. He stated that further interviews and forensic evaluations are yet to be conducted, indicating that the process will be lengthy.
Zack Scrivner was elected to the Kern County Board of Supervisors in 2010 and has served as the board’s chairman in 2012, 2017, and 2022. Prior to his tenure on the board, he spent six years on the Bakersfield City Council.
