Inmate Found Dead at Elmwood Correctional Facility in Apparent Suicide

A 49-year-old inmate at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, Santa Clara County, California, was found dead on Friday, two days after being discovered unresponsive in his cell, according to authorities. The inmate’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office once his next of kin has been notified.

Deputies conducting a routine welfare check at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday made the grim discovery. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated, including CPR, and the inmate was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, marking the sixth death in the county this year.

While an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the inmate’s death is underway, preliminary findings suggest that he died by suicide. Santa Clara County sheriff’s Deputy Felicia Segura stated that there is no evidence of foul play.

The inmate had been booked into the county jail by San Jose police officers on Sunday for several outstanding warrants, as well as multiple drug and resisting arrest charges, according to Deputy Segura.
