Elected Official Resigns After Brawl with LGBT Club Manager Following Urination Incident

Southern California elected official Chris Kilpatrick has resigned from his position on the Crescenta Valley Town Council after being involved in a brawl with the manager of an LGBT club in downtown Los Angeles. The incident occurred after Kilpatrick and another individual were caught on surveillance footage urinating on the doors of Precinct, a popular bar in the area.

In the footage, Kilpatrick and his companion, both wearing unbuttoned black shirts, were seen approaching the employee entrance of the club around 2 a.m. on Sunday. They proceeded to pull down their pants and urinate on the same corner of the door. After completing their act, the duo left the scene, but were stopped by the club’s manager on the street. The manager attempted to take away the cocktail glasses the men had taken from inside Precinct, leading to a physical altercation.

Precinct, in an Instagram post, condemned the behavior of the two individuals, without specifically naming Kilpatrick. The club emphasized its commitment to being a safe space for all and urged patrons to respect the establishment’s rules. Commenters on the post quickly identified Kilpatrick as one of the alleged assailants.

Kilpatrick’s lawyer, John Duran, claimed that his client and his boyfriend felt threatened when they were “aggressively” grabbed by two unidentified men who did not identify themselves. Duran argued that Kilpatrick pushed back in self-defense, fearing a potential gay bashing. Duran also contended that the act of public urination on private property did not constitute a criminal offense, but rather an infraction under the Los Angeles Municipal Code, which could result in a fine.

Following the allegations against Kilpatrick, the Crescenta Valley Town Council announced that he would be removed from his position if the accusations were proven true. Kilpatrick preemptively resigned from the council on Thursday, just one day after the announcement.
