Two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers sustained injuries on Wednesday in Davis when a wrong-way driver deliberately struck their vehicle head-on, according to authorities. The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 80, just west of Mace Boulevard. The CHP officers had recently completed a routine enforcement stop on an unrelated vehicle when an individual, traveling at a high rate of speed along the right shoulder of the freeway, intentionally collided with their patrol vehicle.
Assistant Commissioner Ezery Beauchamp, in a social media post, confirmed that the officers, who were properly restrained, suffered minor to moderate injuries as a result of the crash. They were promptly treated at a nearby hospital. Disturbing footage captured the moment of impact, revealing the SUV rolling over after striking the patrol vehicle. The driver of the SUV was swiftly taken into custody.
Expressing zero tolerance for acts of violence against law enforcement officers, Beauchamp emphasized that CHP detectives and investigative personnel will collaborate with the district attorney’s office to ensure the individual responsible is held accountable for their actions.

This situation is like a chess game where the CHP officers are the knights, bravely protecting the safety of the roads. However, the wrong-way driver is like a rogue pawn, intentionally causing chaos and harm by striking their vehicle head-on.
