Criminal charges related to a domestic violence case against Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges have been dropped due to insufficient evidence, according to court documents. Bridges had been facing three charges, including an alleged violation of a domestic violence protection order, misdemeanor child abuse, and injury to personal property. However, the state determined that prosecutors would not be successful at trial.
The case stemmed from an incident on October 6, 2023, when police officers responded to a call and found a woman and her children in a vehicle with a damaged windshield. Initially, the woman claimed that another woman at the house caused the damage, but later changed her story and implicated Bridges. However, she later expressed uncertainty about how her car was damaged, leading to conflicting accounts.
Bridges, who sat out the entire 2022-23 NBA season as a result of a previous domestic violence case, had been scheduled to appear in court on February 20 to address these charges. In June 2022, he was accused of assaulting the mother of his children in front of them in Los Angeles. Bridges pleaded no contest to one felony count of injuring a child’s parent in November 2022, resulting in three years of probation and no jail time. As part of the agreement, he was also ordered to complete parenting classes, domestic violence counseling, and community service.
Before the plea, Bridges faced three felony charges, including child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury or death, which could have led to up to 11 years in prison. He also served a league-imposed suspension, causing him to miss the first 10 games of the current NBA season. Despite these legal challenges, Bridges has been performing well on the court, averaging 20.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game for the Hornets.
